Listen with Your Eyes

Remember, when you are learning a piece of music from the actual sheet music, your goal is to find out how the music sounds. So don’t just use your eyes, use your ears! Figure out the song using the written page, but then, check to see if you heard what you played. You can do this best by simply taking the music away and playing what you just read.  If you can do it, congratulations!  If not, go back and read it again, but listen to what you read.

Learning this way will insure that you are always playing musically, not mechanically.
